FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
java version "1.3.1_02"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_02-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_02-b02, mixed mode)
FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION : Windows 2000 Server
5.00.2195 Service Pack 2
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
Java SDK and JRE installers, version 1.3.1_02 fail to
install on systems that have 4 Gigabytes of memory. An
error alert appears: "There is insufficient memory....
Error 111" and the application terminates. There was more
than 3 Gigabytes of free memory at the time.
Removing RAM from the machines (we tried 2 Gig) fixes the
problem and the installations proceed normally. This makes
me think it's a bug in the installer.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1.Construct a machine with 4 Gigabytes RAM.
2.Launch the JSDK installer with no parameters.
3.Observe error dialog.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
I expected the J2SDK to install. Insetad I get the error
alert. Installer terminates.
ERROR MESSAGES/STACK TRACES THAT OCCUR :
Sorry I did not get the exact text. But it was something like "There is
insufficient memory to install..." At the end of the message was "Error 111"
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER WORKAROUND :
Remove RAM from the machine. Installation proceeds
normally.
