Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1-b24)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1-b24, mixed mode)
FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION :
Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
Portable which is used at work and at home.
At work: internet access via lan. Has to use proxy server.
So internet options are filled in with proxy server
settings.
At home: internet access via cable. IE automatic detect
option will find automatic config for my cable operator,
completely ignoring the proxy server settings.
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
As I described in the additional configuration information,
I have a portable with different internet connection
options at work and at home. The proxy settings are filled
in to be able to connect to the internet at work. At home,
the "automatically detect settings" options takes care for
connecting to my cable isp, completely ignoring the work
proxy settings. It will transparently use the proxy server
of my cable ISP.
Applets are not working at home. Why? The plug-in is
configured to use the browser settings. At work that is no
problem, but at home, the proxy server that is configured
is of course not available. And the plug-in doesn't have
an "automatically detect settings" option, or it can't use
it.
This is highly irritating that I have to switch the
settings always for the plugin, when I change places. Can
something be done about it? Add the "automatically detect
settings" option to the plugin?
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER WORKAROUND :
Changing the plug-in proxy settings when I change place
(from work to home and back), but this is highly work-
intensive.
