Build tested: Mantis b06, b07
Reproducible OS : Windows98 2nd edition 4.10.2222 A Japanese

I tried the installaion with J2re and J2sdk bundle on 5 windows 98 and the problem was reproducible on 3 of them and not reproducible on other 2 machines, though they are all same version of windows98.

I saw the problem occurred only on the win98 machines when installation was alomost completed just before the dialog which tells us the completion of the installation appears.

The phenomenon is :
- the whole desktop is changed to gray color missing all icons on the desktop and clicking on the desktop, a dialog appears and says like "C:\windows\desktop can't be accessed and the folder was moved or removed" though windows application can work from start menu and the machine is not hung.
Logging off the machine or uninstalling J2sdk/J2re with the problem remaining, the problem is gone and the desktop is recovered.
- Registry key does not exist(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft).
- Logging out the machine and then logging in again, the desktop appears and trying to launch Jaws app manager, a dialog box appears and says like "Installaion is not correcly done and there is no jre in the configuration file."
- There is no Plugin control panel on Windows control panel.
- After the installation, some log files for the installation remain on C:\windows\temp and any failure is not seen in the files.


The difference between the machine which the installation is PASSED and FAILE is
how much disk space is left : here is examples for installing J2SDK.

After installation ----- 145MB

Trying the isnstallaion on 2 WinMEs with about same amout of free disk space, the probelm is NOT reproducible:
Each winME is installed on the same removalble drive as each reproducible win98 is installed, this problem is not reproducible.

William Harnois could reproduce the problem.
