We have observed that jws1.2 is bundled with JDSK1.4.1_02
But there is an inconsistency between the license model between the JDK overall and one of its components. The JDK can be redistributed (as far as I remember), and if an ISV redistributes the JDK with its installation package, the JDK license doesn't have to be displayed at installation time of the ISV package (the JDK license file, though, has to be installed).
I assume the JDK license covers all of its components. The Java Web Start component, which is part of the JDK, therefore should not require another license display mechanism. Any specific reason why it has been added in install script of Jws1.2
This is affecting ISV's who wants to automate the process for JDK installation in silent mode & also that of Jws1.2 installation.
Can't we distribute jws1.2 under one license of JDK 1.4.1. We would like to know exact justification on this licensing scheme so as we can communicate to ISV's.What is the intention of having two licenses?
The problem is seen in Unix version of SDk. j2sdk-1_4_1_02-fcs-bin-b06-solaris-sparc-20_feb_2003
Steps to confirm the problem.
1. Install j2sdk-1_4_1_02-fcs-bin-b06-solaris-sparc-20_feb_2003.sh
2. After installation goto /j2sdk1.4.1_02/jre
You will see javaws-1_2_0_02-solaris-sparc-i.zip file. Unzip same. You will observe install.sh file for jws1.2 installtion. Once you execute thecript you are prompted same licensing question when you were installing j2sdk1.4.1_02.
Ideally jws1.2 is part of of j2sdk1.4.1_02 hence jDK license should cover all the products under it. We would like to know what is rational behind havin a seperate license for Jws1.2?
Can we know justification behind this so we can communicate this to ISV's.
