JDK-2068413 | 5.0 | Rajani Kaja | P2 | Resolved | Fixed | tiger |
This is with Mantis B19.
When I restart my desktop or latop system, I often see the
Java update icon appear in my system tray for a minute or
so during startup. That's fine.
If I run my mouse over the icon, I get tooltip help saying
"download java update 0% complete".
Interesting. That clearly means there is an update available
and I am starting to download it. But for some reason it is
stalled at 0%.
Gee, I keep seeing it stalled at 0%. Then it goes away. I guess
there must be some kind of problem downloading the update.
OK, OK, I do now realize what is going on. The icon is appearing
because Java Update is checking for an update, but it doesn't
actually mean an update is available. Everything is fine.
However, the first few times I say this message, I really did
believe that it meant an update was in progress, and I really did
assume that because it was stuck at 0% indicated that the download
wasn't working and something was broken.
So I think this tooltip message is going to mislead consumers and
make them think there is a problem with the auto update mechanism.
I would recommend we change the tooltip message here to something
like "checking for updates".
