The xalan.jar file that is shipped with IS 6.0SP1 is causing a 50%
overall performance degradation for Portal Server.

The version of Xalan that was shipped with IS 6.0SP1 was the release that went along with the Apache DSIG library. THe Portal Server team has tried out several newe versions of Xalan (2.3.1, 2.5) and they all seem to have this problem.
A test program that demonstrstrates the problem has been attached.
