Steps to reproduce:

1)Launch FilechooserDemo
2)Select Motif Look and Feel
3)Try out the problems mentioned in "Problem Description" above, first with Metal L&F & again with Motif L&F to see the problems
4)In motif L&F, with the "Show JPG & GIF Filters" checkbox unchecked, the "tick" mark for "with file extension"
  still looks to be enabled. Not so in metal L&F

This FilechooserDemo.java comes along with the demo package supplied by SUN.
