A DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUEST :
No standard GIF image encoder shipped with jdk 1.3/1.4

JUSTIFICATION :
Gif is a very common image format used on the web, it only makes sense to support both encoding and decoding.


CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Currently, developers must use 3rd party libraries ... this is ok in the short term but having support in the jdk would be ideal.
