While investigating bug 4740695 which mentions performance problems
with offscreen rendering of simple primitives, it was discovered
that our X11 pipelines also suffered similar performance degradation
from 1.3 to 1.4. Investigations showed that reducing the amount of
JNI access from the native methods could speed these operations back
to near 1.3 levels.
