Sun has not been very timely about hosting JRE auto-install bundles for JavaWebStart. Currently, only 1.3.0_02, 1.3.1_08, 1.4.0, 1.4.1 and 1.4.1_02 are available, which is considerably behind the most current releases (1.3.1_09, 1.4.1_05 and 1.4.2_01). JavaWebStart users are frustrated because they feel that this shows a lack of support for the technology - for instance, there are almost 100 votes on the BugParade for 4638667 and 4836169. In the absence of another method to keep the autodownloads up-to-date, the sources for the installer and JNLP download servlet should be made available to users so that they can host the autodownloads within their own intranet.
