While updating from 1.4.2_02b3 to 1.4.2_03(dummy build) using the java update feature I encountered a few errors.

I installed the 1.4.2_02b3 jre bundle.

Launched the control panel. On the update tab I clicked on update now.
Got a bubble alert on taskbar telling me new updates were available.

Clicking download did nothing first time. The icon just disappeared from system tray. Clicked update now button again. (saw this problem on XP pro and XP Home)

This time I got an error dialog (on XP Pro)

"The request could not be processed by the server due to invalid syntax"

Another attempt gave another error :

"The server has not found anything matching the requested URI (Uniform Resource Identifier"

The bundle eventually installed on XP Pro.

On XP home I got a different error :
The download was ok. During the install part this appeared :
Error 1606: Could not access network location
http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/GetFile/1.4.2_03_b99/windows-i586/jz142030.cab

Clicking on retry buttons makes this succeed.

another attempt complained about not being able to read the following file (on XP Home)
http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/GetFile/1.4.2_03_b99/windows-i586/Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03.msi

(No retry option given this time)

Following an install (successful) I see both 1.4.2_02 & 1.4.2_03 JREs are on system. Should an update not replace the old JRE ?
