A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
I'm having trouble installing JDK 1.4.2_02 in Windows on the main partition with 408 Mb Free space.
At the beguinning of the installation I get 319 Mb of free space, because of the temporary files occupied by the insatallation (~89Mb).
With all features selected (120 + 24 + 20 + 120 = 284), I would sy I have enough space to have it installed, so I continue.
However the installation cannot continue because it complais it requires 513 Mb of free space on that partition, when in fact after installation it only occupies 107.6 (combinned spaces occupied from JRE and SDK).
That much space was not required in previous versions. Is this a bug?
If it isn't it must be clearly stated in the system requirements that at least 602 Mb of free space must be available to install the SDK. Such a big ammout of space required during the installation tends me to think this must be a bug in the installer.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
- Download Offline Installer SDK 1.4.2_02 (or 01 since the problem is the same)
- Have a the partition where you whant to install with 400 Mb (up to 600 Mb free the same problem occurs)
- Set TEMP variable to that partition
- Perform the installation on that partition
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
Considering the combined required spaces for each feature it should be possible to install the SDK having only 200 Mb of free space on the main partition (assuming you have it with the temporary files and it is where you want to install SDK)
ACTUAL -
The installation will beguin by extracting to the temporary location the installation files (stealing aprox. 89 Mb).
During installation it complains it requires 513 Mb of free space.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Need to free up to 602 Mb of free space to have it installed at the end occpying only 107 Mb
