      ------------------
      java versions:

      old new
      --- ---
      1.2.2_10 -> 1.2.2_17a

      1.3.1_01 -> 1.3.1_10

      It doesn't matter which hardware it is installed on.
      If you install the new Java versions (1.2.2_17a & 1.3.1_10) on Solaris 8 7/03
      and run SMC, you'll find the problem in the following places:

      1. Open Toolbox
      - click "Console" then select "Open Toolbox..."

      2. About Console in the Help window
      - click "Help" then select "About Console"

      3. View Error Log
      - click "System Status"
      - click "Process"
      - click a process i.e "ksh"

      ----------------------------
      I have verified the fix from Java (located at /net/jlab113.india/export2/jpse/bug/4958563/bin/) on both Solaris and Trusted Solaris. It fixes the black line and causes no other problems.
