Tiger currently uses Xalan as it's default transformer. Xalan is an interpretive processor. The new XSLTC transform compiles the stylesheet to a byte code and hence is much faster. Some performance tests indicate that it is 10X faster.

The Apache community has agreed to make XSLTC the default processor over Xalan for developing XSLT 2.0.

This request is to move to XSLTC as the default transform in J2SE 1.5
