Steps to be followed:

1. Install J2RE1.4.2_01 in silent mode (Default installation).
2. Install J2RE1.5.0 in interactive mode. (Default installation).
3. Uninstall both JREs in silent mode. (First the 1.4.2_01 and then 1.5.0)

This is an UpgradeJRE test case in the Framework For Automated Install Testing (FAIT).

To verify if the uninstallation has been successful check the control panel-> add remove programs tab.

Now check the windows system directory. The files java.exe, javaw.exe and jpicpl32.cpl will not be cleaned up.

Also the following registry entries will remain :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\JAVASOFT\\Java Runtime Environment.

The keys here have values of 1.4.0 !!!
