Tried suggestions on installshield site; in particular, removed "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\xxx" (forget the name of the subdir - but what was recommended on installshield troubleshooting link)

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
While installing Java 1.4.2_2 SE for Windows, I get this error:
(internal error 2203. C:\WINDOWS\Installer\7db5de.ipi �2147287035)

This seems to happen with either the Internet installation, or the local installation.

This also happened after trying some suggestions on Installshield site.

After the first failed attempt. 1.4.2_02 appeared in the "Add/Remove" database (the registry). Removing it seemed to "do something"; after following failures, it did not appear in the registry, nor was a C:\jdk1.4.2_02 directory created.

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
Download and comence install. After license acceptance, componenet selection, destination selection, and browser association dialogs (all left at default), installation seems to proceed. At the end (progress bar near end), Internal Error announced thru a dialog window. Upon releasing that dialog box with "OK", the installer dialog progresses to "Installation - interrupted", and the "Finish" button appears.

EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
Succesful installation.
ACTUAL -
No installation!

This bug can be reproduced always.
