The Metacity window manager issues a warning (below) about Java windows on its error stream.

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
Run a Java application. Start metacity from a virtual console.

EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
Should be quiet.
ACTUAL -
Metacity prints the message below to its error stream.

ERROR MESSAGES/STACK TRACES THAT OCCUR :
Window manager warning: Window 0x1200006 has property WM_CLASS
that was expected to have type STRING format 8
and actually has type COMPOUND_TEXT format 8 n_items 0.
This is most likely an application bug, not a window manager bug.
The window has title="SwingSet" class="unknown" name="unknown"


REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
