Tested_Machine_Name : sniperpc.india.sun.com
Tested O/S : winxp Prof
Synopsis:
3 bugs
- the error window does no wait for user intervention on JNLP downloads error in case JRE disabled in runtime settings..
- second installer entry is created in the viewer but has no offline/online
entry.
- Also on selecting that entry and clicking on "Remove application" the
entry is removed but then view the Edit->Reinstall menu item and you do
not see entry for the installer.
Problem Description :
1) ensure you have no JRE on the system
2) Install J2RE bundle as user with admin privileges
3) From command window invoke javaws -import
http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/notepad.jnlp
4) It will download andinstall notepad application.
5) quit javaws
4) Invoke Java ControlPanel (Start->Control Panel click on java icon)
4) Go to Java tab
5) Click on "View" button under JNLP RuntimeSettings
You will see a window with User/System tabs
6) Choose user Tab and Select the first entry
7) uncheck "Enabled" entry
8) Click on Ok
9) Click on Apply
10) quit control Panel
11) from command window invoke javaws
12) In user tab you will see entry for Notepad App
13) double click on that entry. Since 2.5.0 JRe entry is unchecked, it will
try to download 1.4.2_02 JRE from java.sun.com
14) It will invoke a window which has a title "Launch file error"
It has 2 buttons Ok and details
Click on details before you can scroll thru all exceptions the
window disappears.
In fact after that error window appears just wait for sometime and it
goes away without any user intervention.
We now have an entry for
J2RE1.4.2_02Installer in the viewer
If you select that entry , right click and view "Show JNLP Descriptor"
it will display the JNLP.
But for that entry you do not see the offline/online status nor the date.
Try removing that entry and then looking at the reinstall menu item.
You will not see that entry.
