A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
This is now an ongoing problem for me, since Dec/03 when I purchased and installed a new PCI Graphics card. I am running the most current drivers and the latest version of Direct X. The problem has been consistant and I have tried earlier releases of Java (j2re-1.4.1-05 / 06 / 07) and now 1.4.2_03_b02.

"DDHELP caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown>"

Also associated with this problem - I have always had my monitor set to power down after 20 mins, if I get a dDhelp error and do not reboot right away and the monitor powers down, the system locks up - all I get is a black screen with a blinking white cursor.

I have read everything I could find on your site, bug reports and the forums.
Some of the solutions I found I did not quite understand how to do; I admit it I am a newbie when it comes to Java.....

I have narrowed it down to what I believe is a possible Java problem, as I have now worked through most of the suggested solutions from ATI and what I could find on MS's site and MS newsgroups - to no avail.

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
I have also been in touch with ###@###.### and he suggested the following work-around, which has worked for me. Not a Fix though!

I added the following line to autoexec.bat:

      SET J2D_D3D=false

I had the *"DDHELP caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown>"*
come up only under the following circumstances:

      - Browsing the web with Mozilla, visit a site with Java applets
(http://java.com/en/index.jsp), close Mozilla and get the error.
If I don't happen upon a site with Java, I get no error.

      - Using my HTML editor (Arachnophilia), upon exiting I get the error.
Get the error whether or not Mozilla is used.

      - Installing Java (1.4.4-06/07) & (1.4.2-03_b02) - receive the error
      upon completion of the install.

      - Java Web Start, upon exiting. "I don't use this anyway, but tried it
to see if the same thing happens, and it does."

      - Java Consol in Control Panel, upon exiting.

Everything works fine while using any of the above, but the problem occurs only when I close or exit....

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
      EXPECTED -
Just being able to exit without getting the error and having to reboot every time.

      CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
I have found no workaround for the dDhelp error issue.....

Re: Black screen and white blinking cursor problem - I have found a work around (not a fix) for this and have managed to keep this from happening by changing the monitor setting to power down "never" and by using a screen saver instead..........Although I now occasionally get an Explorer.exe error - I've never like using screen savers.
