Several installation errors have been found in 1.3.1_12b03.
---
On both Windows 2000 Server and XP Pro, the JDK & JRE installation screens refer to 1.3.1_13
Also, during JDK installation, the JDK is installed into %SYSTEMROOT%/jdk1.3.1_13 and NO JRE is installed into %SYSTEMROOT%/progra~1/javasoft/
The standalone JRE is installed into a %SYSTEMROOT%/progra~1/javasoft/JRE/1.3.1_13 and the following error message is returned during installation:
"Error while registering the Java 2 Runtime Environment registry keys"
The respective registry keys (MyComputer>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>JavaSoft) also refer to 1.3.1_13. As a result, the java plugin fails to register and perform correctly
----
On Solaris 8/x86, the java plugin refers to 1.3.1_13 as well. Using the Netscape 4.76 browser, About Plugins returns:
"Java(TM) Plug-in 1.3.1_12-b03
File name: /usr/j2se/jre/plugin/i386/ns4/javaplugin.so
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.3.1_13
Mime Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-java-bean;jpi-version=1.3.1_13 Java(tm) Plug-in - Yes
application/x-java-bean;jpi-version=1.3.1_12 Java(tm) Plug-in - Yes"
etc...
The ControlPanel.html file contained in the jre directory refers to a 1.3.1_13 plugin:
<EMBED type=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.3.1_13
----
One both platforms, the LICENSE file for 1.3.1_12b03 refers to a 'Pre-Release Binary Software Evaluation Agreement', this is incorrect for a FCS build.
