Users will be confused when they have 1.5.0 installed, and then they update to 1.5.0_01. They may think that it is just reinstalling 1.5.0. We need someway of indicating to the user that it is an update release.
One suggestion is to call the product names:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 (Update Release 1)
J2SE Development Kit 5.0 (Update Release 1)
It is up to marketing to decide.
