      FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
      java version "1.5.0-beta2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0-beta2-b51)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0-beta2-b51, mixed mode, sharing)

      ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
      Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
When upgrading Java version, desktop and startmenu shortcuts to webstart applications are lost (why?).

With Java 1.5.0-beta2, these shortcuts never reappear, even if you use the application many times. The result is that the shortcuts to you often used applications are lost and there is no way to restore them.

Also with former versions of java, the shortcuts were lost during upgrades (which I consider a bug). But then, webstart recognized the application as "new webstart application" on use and asked whether or not to install shortcuts on second use. Now, it seems webstart recognize the application as "not new", the result being no desktop integration.

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
      1. use any webstart application a few times and get a "desktop integration" application shortcut on desktop / start menu.

      2. upgrade to java 1.5.0-beta-2 and watch webstart application shortcuts get deleted

      3. use application again a few times: never asked to re-establish desktop integration for application.

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
      EXPECTED -
Desktopn shortcuts to webstart applications should be preserved during java upgrade or at least re-established when using the webstart application a few times.
      ACTUAL -
desctop shoprtcuts to webstart applications are lost, never to be reestablished

      REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always. (according to submitter - but not seen here)
