Win XP Home and Win XP Pro with SP2 installed.

java.sun.com test website : webwork.sfbay.

Set up your windows XP box with SP2 installed do
that java.sun.com points to webwork.sfbay (10.5.14.57)

install and old fcs version of 1.4.2_x (e.g 1.4.2_02b03)

click on update now button in java control panel.
A dialog appears saying 1.4.2_05b4 is ready to download.

After clicking on the download button, the java icon in the
task bar stays for about 10 secs and then disappears.

This bug is the same as 5047574 which was closed.

Examing the jusched.log file shows the following :

:: The server's response was not valid. The server was not following the defined protocol.
Resume the job, and then Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) will try again.

Looks like an issue on the server side.
