Setup:
OS : solaris 10 build 69.
Java : 1.5.0_01-ea-b02.
Locales: zh, zh.GBK, zh.UTF-8, zh_CN.EUC, zh_CN.GBK, zh_CN.UTF-8, zh_CN.GB18030.
Description:
The Chinese font rendering effect is different in zh (zh_CN.EUC) from other Chinese locales. The effect in zh locale is worse than in other locales. Please see attached screenshots.
Java use msgbl.ttf to display Chinese characters in zh locales, but for other locales, it use songti.ttf (from Founder) to display Chinese. Founder's songti.tti font has embedded bitmap glyph. The fontconfig.properties should be configured to let Java try to use songti.ttf (zh_CN.GB18030 font) first in any Chinese locales.
