A DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUEST :
RFE: Add support for the X11 printing API ("XPrint") to enhance the print support in JAVA. Even JAVA 5.0 has only very rudimentary printer support on Linux, both on application and backend side. It may be a huge win to implement support for the X11 printing API as it offers access to a far wider range of features than currently supported in the Linux version of JAVA - and it is network-transparent and extensible.

      JUSTIFICATION :
The current print support in JAVA lacks a huge amount of features which are provided with Xprint - such as (examples):
      - Platform and spooler-independent enumeration of print queues (JAVA 5.0 only has a very rudimentary support for CUPS, LPRng is not supported and commercial spoolers cannot be supported by design)
      - Independence from the limitations of Postscript (Xprint supports PCL, PDF; Postscript, Raster and SVG as output formats)
      - Ability to query printer capabilities (not properly supported with JAVA 5.0)
      - Ability to print 3D graphics (Xprint supports OpenGL for printers starting with Xorg release 6.8.0)
      and so on
