Using Tiger and above, all the Japanese fonts will be rendered as boxes on SuSE linux.
To reproduce, launch Font2DTest demo in jdk then try following ranges.
Hiragana
Katakana
CJK Unified Ideographs
Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms

Tested environment
