A DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUEST :
      * Integrate the Java Control Panel into Microsoft Management Console
      * Improve or allow for application integration with the Java Control Panel.
      * Improve tight Windows integration and WORA integration with other platforms.
      * Java Control Panel includes Java Webstart Management.

When right clicking on 'My Computer', the popup menu has a 'Manage' button that loads Computer Management. Under Services and Applications or preferrably straight off 'Computer Management' should exist a control panel that manages or allows JRE resources on the computer to be managed.

      JUSTIFICATION :
This is one of many RFEs produced from a community discussion at
      http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=143. Further
justification could typically be found at the given link or off a thread listed at the given link.

While there may be a number of application reasons to have the JRE panel integrate with the MMC instead of the current JRE app that is loaded through the Windows Control Panel, I cite 3 major points,

      1) System Management - For each operating system there is a common understanding of how things get discovered and managed in that environment. In windows its the MMC and the control panel.

      2) In a business development environment having java applications and their configuration appear next to MS SQL Server in the MMC is a MAJOR marketing benifit aswell as a system administration benifit since windows administrators will be more familiar with the MMC. I do not doubt that it is currently possible by larger teams (ibm, jboss, apache) but to have an os framework for the smaller developer to integrate in such a way can ONLY be benificial.

      3) Integration with the java control panel in terms of webstart and jws application manager along with possibly managing services that start at runtime (os independant) and applications that integrate with the taskbar or (os independant) quickbar can only be benificial. The key is desktop and platform integration. An important concern is remote management of an application - How to remotely manage a machine through the MMC, etc.

Tighter OS desktop and management integration of services is essential for the small development companies (4-5 people) who are the hearts and minds of small businesses. It is my opinion that it is easier for small business to support windows-only technologies.

Another RFE that I will submit later on is related to Trusted Computing. The ability of a business to deploy and manage trusted applications can be bound to the JRE installation. Furthermore, trust across operating system platforms should be possible (?) with java. This is detailed in another RFE.

Another RFE that I will submit later on is related to Java Webstart extensions. This can be enhanced significantly and management or visibility can be increased.

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
      EXPECTED -
Ability to remotely manage a JRE installation.
Ability to write a service that integrates with the taskbar.
