A DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUEST :
Many operating systems (Windows, Gnome on Linux & Solaris) have a concept of a "global hot key" or "desktop hot key." A global hot key is a key combination which, when pressed in any application, executes a command in the program that registered the hotkey. The JDK should provide a cross-platform API for this functionality.
(An example use would be to provide a global hotkey for restoring an application from the system tray, or a global hotkey for composing a new e-mail.)
JUSTIFICATION :
Many operating systems support this feature, but the JDK does not support it.
