J2SE Version (please include all output from java -version flag):
java version "1.5.0_03"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_03-b05, mixed mode, sharing)
Does this problem occur on J2SE 1.3, 1.4.x or 1.5? Yes / No (pick one)
Yes
Operating System Configuration Information (be specific):
Windows XP
Bug Description:
Customers are continually frustrated with the lack of upgrade support in
JavaWebStart. Specifically is that muffins created in one version are not
(in any major upgrade) copied to the new muffin location. The muffin
directory is continually changed, but the contents is never copied.
When went to 1.4, you had to write a special utility to copy the muffins
since they were moved between webstart 1.0 and webstart 1.2. Now, in
webstart 5.0, they are moved again, and again they are not copied from
their previous location. Muffins seemed to be a good idea, but for every
new webstart release you need to patch the previous versions of code to
make it compatible with the new webstart muffin directory. The transient
nature of the muffins really decreases their usefullness
Is there any possibility that this can be fixed in some 5.0_X?
Steps to Reproduce (be specific):
Upgrade from webstart 1.0 jre 1.3 to jre 5.0
