OS tested - Win XP Home SP2
Steps to reproduce -
1) On a system, install Firefox 1.0.2 and Mozilla 1.7.6. Get these from:
http://www.mozilla.org/
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/#1.7.6
2) Install 1.5.0_02 then 1.4.2_08, so that 1.4.2_08 is the registered version with Mozilla
3) install 1.6.0 on both systems.
4) Run regedit, inspect that: HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\JavaSoft\\Java Runtime Environment\\BrowserJavaVersion = 1.6.0.
5) Launch Mozilla 1.7.6. Open Java Console and inspect that the Java version is 1.6.0.
6) Launch Firefox 1.0.2. Run the following applet to invoke the Java Console. Open Java Console and inspect that the Java version is 1.6.0.
http://sqeweb/st1/plugin-home/tiger/mimetypes/pluginhtml-default/Default_MimeType_160.html
7) In JCP, de-select the "<APPLET> tag support" button for "Mozilla family".
8) Check that: HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\JavaSoft\\Java Runtime Environment\\BrowserJavaVersion is deleted
9) Launch Mozilla 1.7.6. Open Java Console and inspect that the Java version is 1.5.0_02.
10) Launch Firefox 1.0.2. Open Java Console and inspect that the Java version is 1.6.0.
11) set HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\JavaSoft\\Java Runtime Environment\\BrowserJavaVersion = 1.5.0_02
12) Launch Mozilla 1.7.6. Open Java Console and inspect the Java version. It is still shown as 1.6.0, whereas as per the spec it should now be changed to 1.5.0_02
13) Launch Firefox 1.0.2. Open Java Console and inspect the Java version. It is still shown as 1.6.0, whereas as per the spec it should now be changed to 1.5.0_02
Note - This problem is not there on Firefox 1.1 and Mozilla 1.8.1
