FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
java version "1.5.0_02"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_02-b09)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_02-b09, mixed mode, sharing)
ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Windows 2000 Pro
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
see this bug in both NS7 and firefox (have not tried IE)
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
my chat product uses a java.awt.List to display list of users in a room -- has been working fine for a while but NOW, it looks like languages such as Arabic (in my case) are showing default char (little box) rather than the arabic characters.
NOTE: Input fields are working fine - and additional languages are supported in the browser
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1. go to http://www.hav.com/chatMar2000/3litec.htm
2. log into chat with a user id (handle) that is arabic (not the default language for browser)
3. SHOULD see characters ok in the input field BUT, once logged in, should see default char's (little box) in user list for your ID
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
expect the java.awt.List element to support languages supported by the browser (as was done in previous versions)
ACTUAL -
see default chars (little box) instead of alternate language characters
ERROR MESSAGES/STACK TRACES THAT OCCUR :
none - n.a.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
none that I know of
