JDK-2130351 | 5.0 | Paul Wu | P4 | Closed | Won't Fix |
FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
confirmed on 1.5.0.02 and 1.5.0.03
ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Windows XP SP2 with latest MS Patches
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
We have folder redirection on our network where the users profile etc. is redirected to a UNC share on a server. Our AD is Windows 2003. Our users cannot launch any application through Java Web Start. Once the Cache directory is changed from UNC to a drive letter mapping, all the applications work. This is true for basic user through local admin.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
Launch the Java Control Panel Applet. On the General Tab, click Settings. Under location, change the location to any UNC path where the user has full change permissions. Click OK. Launch any web start application. It will fail. Change it to any Drive letter based path, and it will again work.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
I was expecting the application to launch from UNC as well.
ACTUAL -
The application failed to launch.
ERROR MESSAGES/STACK TRACES THAT OCCUR :
Java Web Start - Unexpected Error
Unable to launch <Application Name>
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
---------- BEGIN SOURCE ----------
Reproducable with any application from http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/demos.html
---------- END SOURCE ----------
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
None, other then to change to drive letter.
