JPlan 169
Improve application deployment in the browsers by providing a simple way to
enable one-click application deployment across browsers on all platforms.
ISVs want capability to detect versions of JRE/plugin/webstart on the system
from the browser.
They also want to use this feature to handle JNLP application launching,
along with JRE download/install and enterprise configuration deployment.
Many ISVs have used Java Web Start to deploy their applications to the
desktops. While Java Web Start works great for them, they have difficulties
to do simple JRE deployment through the browsers on all platforms, especially
on Mozilla/Firefox. This is a major obstacle to Java application adoption.
They would like Sun to provide a more consistent application deployment model
through across browsers. They would also like Sun to improve the existing
deployment model with Internet Explorer.
