on Windows,
if combobox has focus, unmodified up/down arrow buttons should change the selection within the combobox without posting the dropdown.
SwingSet2 running on 1.6.0 b56 will post the combobox dropdown when arrow is pushed.
For Windows behavior, you can launch IE, Tools>Internet Options , Programs. Also Visual Studio's properties sheet also behaves the same way.
