I am logging into a linux-amd64 machine remotely from SolSparc10-JDS and I have set the display to my local display (display of SolSparc10). Now I am trying to launch an application from the console passing '-splash' option and an image file. I am surprised to see the SplashScreen appearing as a Java Window at the center of the screen and I am able to minimize/maximize the splash screen. This looks pretty bad.
This is reproducible only when I use linux-amd64 binaries and not occuring when using linux-i586 on the same remote machine. This is reproducible on Mustang-b73 as well as b59g. I reproduced it by logging into the remote machine RHEL 4 (RedHat Enterprise Linux 4) on AMD64 (machine name: jit041.india) from my local machine SolSparc10-JDS.
I have attached a sample test. Login into some remote linux-AMD64 machine from a solaris box and launch the application. The app will use your local display. Specify '-splash' option when launching the app. If the splash screen appears inside a frame, the bug is reproduced.
I have attached a sample test, image and a screenshot of the specified behavior.
