    Description

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
The "Supported Fonts" document says that the VM looks for fonts in 2 places - the lib/fonts dir and "the normal font location(s) defined by the host operating system". The normal font location is different for different flavors of Linux, yet the VM doesn't look in "the normal location" for each Linux distribution. For example, TrueType fonts live in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF on Fedora Core 4 systems (and probably others). The VM only looks for TrueType fonts in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType, and therefore doesn't find anything in the TTF directory.

Please update the documentation to be specific about where each of Sun's VMs looks for fonts, at least on Linux.
