RSA Security reports that on Windows 2000, JRE 1.4.2_12 has the maximum heap size of 1360m. Any attempt to set it higher results in the following error:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
However, on JRE 1.4.2 they were able to set the heap size to 1530m.
The problem did occur on the same system. They replicated this on two different Windows 2000 systems in their lab after customer UPS experienced this problem in production. This is affecting RSA ClearTrust 5.5.3 on windows 2000.
Yumin Qi from Java sustaining reports the following:
Roger,
I have done some research of the problem and found indeed there was a putback caused this problem on Windows 2000 ---- I haven't found on XP.
The change of Error handling, dated back to Mar 10, 2005, changed the behavior, but I could net see why it happened so. The bug id is 4515367.
If customer need to have a solution, they need escalation to get it fixed in update releases. Also, you need to file bug along the escalation.
Thanks
Yumin
