FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
java version "1.6.0_01"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_01-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_01-b06, mixed mode)
ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Fedora 7 (Fedora 6 had exact same problem - regardless of kernel version)
Linux 2.6.21-1.3207.fc8 #1 SMP Tue Jun 5 00:53:19 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
Danish keyboard. Running gnome 2.1.18
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
Even though earlier threads mark this problem as closed its very much alive.
alt-gr button wont work in java (as the only problem). Which makes it impossible to write {,},[,].|
Also java somehow manages to ignore my current keyboard layout. If i change my current keyboard layout it will still only use the default one even though all other programs will accept the new layout without any problem.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
Need a keyboard with alt-gr button and layout that support this.
Then run java -jar /path-to-jdk/demo/jfc/Notepad/Notepad.jar
Try to write [] {} in the program.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
expected the correct {} [] representation
ACTUAL -
it writes 70 89 insteadt
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Workaround is to change default keyboard layout to english.. But because of the other bug with java not accepting other than default keyboard layout, this is a very handicapping situation. Either java wont work or you will have to change keyboard layout each time you use another program, and you wont be able to use special characters.
