J2SE Version (please include all output from java -version flag):
java version "1.6.0_01"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_01-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_01-b06, mixed mode, sharing)
Does this problem occur on J2SE 1.4.x or 5.0.x ? Yes / No (pick one)
Yes 1.5, to a lesser extent in 1.4
Operating System Configuration Information (be specific):
Windows XP PRO SP2
IE 7.0
Hardware Configuration Information (be specific):
Sony VIAO laptop 2.8 Gz
1.25 GB RAM
Bug Description:
The Java Web Start cache viewer could be made easier to use.
1) Allow better sorting of the table.
Clicking on the column headers do sort the table, but the sort is not indicated on the screen.
Further, clicking it again does not reverse the sort. Also, if a cached application is removed
from the viewer, the sorting is lost.
2) Show the URL of the jnlp file.
The URL used to show back in the 1.4 days. In 1.5 it was lost. This is handy if you have lots of
test servers with the same application on it. Currently, the only way to see information is to
click on the row in the table and choose to view the JNLP file.
3) The control panel takes a really long time to come up. Having the control panel take so long
to come up encourages that perception that java is slow. I realize there are other things that
are in the pipe to help speed startup, but good design is still important. Is seems maybe some
lazy loading may be possible to help the initial dialog come up faster so that the user gets more
immediate feedback that it actually is coming up.
