FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
java version "1.7.0-ea"
ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
If you configure Java to use the browser proxy settings (in the Java control panel) and your default browser is Firefox, any changes made to the Firefox proxy settings won't be picked up by Java until the Mozilla session is closed.
prefs.js doesn't seem to be updated until the browser is closed.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
- Open Firefox and set the browser settings to use an incorrect proxy server.
- Close Firefox
- Set Java to use the browser proxy settings (in the Java control panel) .
- Open Firefox and set the proxy server to the correct proxy server. Do not close it.
- Open a Java Web Start application. It will continue to use the browser settings which were initially configured, not the new ones. You will need to close Firefox to allow it to save the changes to the proxy settings before they will be detected by Java Web Start apps.
- reloading the proxy setting in the Java console has no effect.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
New proxy settings in Firefox should be picked up by Java as soon as they are changed.
ACTUAL -
Modified Firefox settings are only detected after Firefox has been closed and prefs.js has been updated.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Close or restart Mozilla after making any changes to the proxy settings.
