REGRESSION 131_23-b01 About Plug-in text in Netscape Communicator is garbled on sparc-solaris8

Steps to reproduce on sparc solaris8 with browser Netscape Communicator 4.7x.

1. Install jre.sh bundle from /java/re/jdk/1.3.1_23/promoted/fcs/b01/bundles
2. Register plugins as follows

# cd <path-to-j2re1_3_1_23>/plugin/sparc/ns4
# export NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=$PWD

3. Run netscape. Then click Help -> About Plug-ins.

We should be getting something like "Java(TM) Plug-in 1.3.1_23-b01" but instead we get "?0(TM)_.g-in"

I installed 131_22fcs & 131_21fcs and the About Plug-ins text is fine, it is not garbled. Please look at screenshots 131_22fcs.png and 131_21fcs.png. I also installed ea-b01 of 132_22 just to make sure this was not a 1st build issue. It was not, the about plug-in text was fine there also.

I took a 32-bit win2000pro system with IE6.0 and Netscape Communicator installed. I installed the j2re.exe for 131_23. The about plug-ins for netscape and equivalent for IE are fine. Please take a look at screenshots 131_23_win_nscom.png and 131_23_win_ie.png.

Incidently, I was able to run some plugin BAT tests fine on solaris8.
