This finding comes from a user study.
Participants complained about so many dialogs displayed during the download and install process. In addition, some dialog boxes appear and disappear too quickly to be read.
In short, the user experience for applets is:
1. Initial screen of Java installer appears (Downloading Java Installer dialog),
2. MSI dialog appears (Windows installer),
3. Welcome screen of Java installer appears.
user experience for Web Start application is:
1. Downloading Java dialog appears (it stays visible for only 1 sec on high speed connection),
2. Initial screen of Java installer appears (Downloading Java Installer dialog),
3. MSI dialog appears (Windows installer),
4. Welcome screen of Java installer appears.
It would be great if we can cover the progress bar displayed in the MSI dialog with progress bar displayed in the Initial screen of Java installer.
