Information below, provided by the consumer:

I originally had Java Runtime 1.6.0.07 on my computer.
I went to the Java website and updated my Java to 1.6.0.10 version. Before this I did not have ANY issues with ANY Java platform I downloaded.

I opened the Windows XP SP 3 Control Panel to the Java Control Panel applet and opened it. I selected the Advanced tab and selected the Security option. The list of options is longer than the size of the Java control panel applet window (this is normal) and a scroll bar appears to the right to enable the user to full scroll down and view all options to configure the setting. As soon as I touch the scroll bar, ALL the fonts in the window became blurry and unreadable and it was difficult to see what I had checked and not checked for my option. As soon as I clicked on the + sign at the top of the Securty options list and collapsed the list, all the fonts became readable again. IN ADDITION I had a program on my computer called Lime Wire that relies on Java to function and when I opened the program to change certain options, several of the lists are very long and produce a scroll bar on the right, and when I scroll all the fonts in the program window become unreadable and blurry. I also have another program called Calcexp by New Spring Soft that relies on Java to work and experienced the same problem with this program in the programs options setttings.

I contacted Sun and told them and the original response that I got was they wanted more information about my graphics card and my graphics card driver.

I am including an image from the Device Manager in Windows so that you may specifically identify the graphics chip in my computer.

In the meantime, my driver version at the time was Nvidia Ge Force Go 7600 Driver Version 86.38. It is the ONLY WHQL signed driver for this chip to come out from HP for my laptop.

I went to www.laptopvideo2go.com and downloaded and installed 1 of ONLY 3 WHQL drivers ever released for this card (1 of which is not supplied by HP but by Nvidia) and updated the driver version to 174.74. At once the problem in the Java control panel and the other programs ceased.

I did not want to use this driver because it is not THE OEM driver supplied by HP but rather one developed by Nvidia to support MANY graphics cards. So now the problem is fixed but in a rather UNUSUAL way.

I hope that helps as I am sure there must be other people that experienced the same thing. When I wrote to HP and told them about the driver issue, they suggested I use the driver from their website, which is the older version that produces these issues, version 86.36.

Thanks for listening as I have been using Java for over 10 years and this is the first time the fonts ever got blurry in the program window itself, not including perhaps other HIDDEN issues that may not have come to light.
