(I don't have the exact format because I've already uninstalled it as part of testing this problem)

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
Installing JRE 1.6 Update 11 disables the Microsoft VM by removing the two ways of turning it off in Internet Explorer.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1. Install Sun JRE 1.6 Update 11.
2. In Internet Explorer look for the "Internet Options | Advanced" item "Java (Sun)" with a checkbox to "Use JRE 1.7.0 for <applet>".
3. In the Sun Java console (running javacpl.exe as an administrator) look for the "Default Java for browsers" item.
4. Use either #2 or #3 to disable the Sun JVM in Internet Explorer and allow an installed copy of the Microsoft VM to work.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
Either #2 and #3 above should allow one to disable the the Sun JVM in Internet Explorer and allow an installed copy of the Microsoft VM to work. This has been the case for all version of JRE 1.7 and for earlier versions of 1.6.
ACTUAL -
Both #2 and #3 fail. There is no "Java (Sun)" item in Internet Explorer and in the Java Control panel's "Default Java for browsers" the checkbox for Internet Explorer is grayed out and inactive.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Uninstall JRE 1.6 Update 11 and install JRE 1.7 build 41 (42 may also work but I returned to the one that I knew worked).
Release Regression From : 6u7
The above release value was the last known release where this
bug was not reproducible. Since then there has been a regression.
