6u14 java.com Staging cceptance testing: Usability issue
Tested URL: http://star-wip.sfbay.sun.com:88/
Platform: Windows
browser: IE 7, IE 8
Online Installer always requests users to close 'iexplore.exe' before the proceeding with the latest update (PIP) from earlier release of the same family to 6u14 (ex: 6u10 ---> 6u14). Firefox (via jxpiinstall.exe doesn't have this problem. Because of this issue, IE java.com users won't be routed back to the installed page via PIP.
This is not a regression in 6u14 since we can reproduce it when going from 6u10 --> 6u13 as well
Steps to reproduce:
------------------
- Install 6u10 (or otther later 6ux < 6u14)
- Kill all IE processes.
- Open one single IE session and go to star-wip.sfbay.sun.com:88
- Click 'Free Java Download'
- Follow the instruction to proceed 6u14 installation. There is no way that you can begin the 6u14 installation without being asked to close the IE session. Since you have to close the IE browser which the online installation request started from, you never see the loop-back to the installed page for verifying and congratulation message (unless you open a new session of IE and click 'Free Java Download' again)
This scenario can be reproduced with the live 6u13 bits on java.com.
