FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
java version "1.6.0_0"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.6.1) (ArchLinux-1.6.1-1-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)
ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Linux zenator-arch 2.6.31-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Oct 13 11:33:39 CEST 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU L9600 @ 2.13GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
Arch Linux 64-bit
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
On the IBM/Lenovo laptops, you have a trackpoint device for mouse, as well as a middle mouse button. Normally, to scroll, you click the middle-mouse button, then move the trackpoint cursor to scroll. This is the normal behaviour under Windows. Under Linux, the same behaviour is also normally configured via X.
I noticed in Netbeans, that if I attempt to scroll like this, it will scroll fine for a few seconds, then suddenly, the scrolling will stop, and the right mouse menu will popup. If I click the middle mouse button, it will paste text (normal behaviour under X).
Other people have also experienced this issue with Netbeans, with different versions as well:
http://forums.netbeans.org/viewtopic.php?p=52264
I filed an issue in the NetBeans issue tracker, and they mentioned it might be an issue with the JRE itself:
http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=173927
I also noticed the same issue in BucketExplorer (another Java application).
Hence, I am filing this issue here.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
The cursor is in a Java text area (e.g. Netbeans editing pane)
On a IBM/Lenovo machine, hold down the middle mouse button, and then scroll the trackpoint.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
The cursor should scroll smoothly, and then stop when you release the middle mouse button.
ACTUAL -
The cursor will scroll for around 1-2 seconds before suddenly stopping, and the right-mouse menu will appear.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
