FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe
ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Windows XP Service Pack 3
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
In a previous version of Java installation I was using the following installation package: jre-6u7-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe or jre-6u11-windows-i586-p-s.exe
These command line arguments did work, although the ADDLOCAL come to find out wasn't supported according to the help file.
Now with this new installation package, jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe, the command line above no longer works. However, if you go to dos and type in jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe /? it WONT even show you what switches are supported. So I chose to use jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe /quiet and that brings up the installation window expecting user response. I also tried jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe /qn , which /qn is the same thing as /quiet and I still get a user response for installation setup. Unless you made the installation so I am forced to use an .msi installation, then I should be able to get by with the only installation argument as /quiet or /qn. If I can just use one of those 2, then I am thinking that when creating the setup program someone forgot to take in command line arguments for the program because I can't get 3 out of the 3 command line arguments that I tried to work.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
go to a dos prompt navigate to where you have a jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe installation package and type in:
jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe /quiet
or
jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe /qn
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
after completing the steps above I am expecting it to install Java for all the users using the machine, in silent mode with out any user response because I am installing 15 applications at one time when I get a new computer in and currently I have a batch file that runs my installs for me. So I should be able to execute my batch file and walk away.
ACTUAL -
Actual result is that the batch file executes the jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe setup program and brings up a user interface asking for input from the user, instead of just installing the software without any input.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Installing the Software manually and spending more time that I should be for installing this application.
Release Regression From : 6u11
The above release value was the last known release where this
bug was not reproducible. Since then there has been a regression.
