      FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
      java version "1.6.0_16"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_16-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.2-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

      ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
      Microsoft Windows XP [version 5.1.2600]

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
If the default printer is defined locally to the PC, the print dialog is displayed immediately.

If default printer is defined through a print spooler, the print dialog may take 10 seconds to be displayed, each time it is called.

This is very uncomfortable for users who often print.

This was immediate with Java 1.4.1.

Apparently, with future Java 7, the print dialog may be long to be displayed the first time it is called, it is displayed immediately afterwards.

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
Define a default printer through a print spooler.
Launch the Font2DTest prototype provided as demo with JDK 1.6.

Select "File" then "Print" menus then click on "Print" button then launch printing.

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
      EXPECTED -
The print dialog should be displayed immediately.

Or the print dialog may be long to be displayed the first time it is called and it should be displayed immediately afterwards.
      ACTUAL -
The print dialog take 10 seconds to be displayed, each time it is called.

      REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
