A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
The updater for JRE 6 u21 (?) does not show any version number nor product information. While this does not threat any java application, IMHO this must be regarded as a bug anyway:
- for admins, it is disturbing: "What/which version is the updater about to install?!"
- for users with less technical background, it is quite appalling. It does not strengthen confidence in java as a platform. Updaters like this look like some sort of fraud.
- for ISVs it makes it harder to accept customers as a platform for their apps.

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
Have a previous release of the JRE running on a Windows XP machine should allow for reproducing this.

EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
Admins would expect a precise version name and version number of what the updater is about to install.
Users with no/less technical background would expect the same plus some short info why they should install this update. The text of the previous served quite well.
The current link to the OTN Java SE Overview page does not serve this purpose.
