None that I know of, but if you cannot reproduce the problem and you need installer logfiles or something, please let me know where to find them.
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
Because of performance problems I always disable the Java Quick Starter (JQS) through the Java icon in the Windows control panel. The thing is, every time Java updates itself (either through it's own updater or because something else like an IDE tells it to) this JQS has been coming back.
This problem didn't start occuring with 1.7, but it happened when I installed / updated the previous versions too.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
Update Java or install a new version of Java.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
If the JQS check box in the Java control panel applet was checked before installation, it should remain checked and JQS should remain active (or be restarted if it changed).
If on the other hand the JQS check box was not checked, it should remain unchecked and JQS should not be started.
ACTUAL -
The check box is turned on, even if it was off before, and JQS is started.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
When my computer becomes slow, I uncheck the check box in the control panel applet; that fixes the issue - until the next update.
